Records documenting mainly the activities of the new Mattocks School, but with historical information and photographs relating to the old Mattocks School. Included are newsletters (1963-1973), subject files (1949-1978), and Parent-Teacher Association [PTA] records (1936-1978). The subject files include historical data (1949-2003), assorted award and ceremonial programs, and numerous photographs (1953-1976), documenting school activities inside and outside the classroom, classes and faculty, and the school buildings. The PTA records include yearbook/activity books (1936-1978); bylaws and other administrative materials, including budgets (1969-1978); correspondence and related documents (1952, 1974-1977); minute books (1964-1978); and scrapbooks (1945-1974, incomplete).

The old Mattocks School, a one room stone structure located at the corner of Randolph Street and Snelling Avenue, was opened in 1871 as Webster School District No. 9 serving the children of Reserve Township. It had been preceded by a wooden one room school opened in 1861 and designated School District No. 2.
